BRIDGE-AI was presented at the FIWARE Global Summit 2026, held in Menton, France, through the presentation “BRIDGE-AI: Leveraging FIWARE for Agentic AI in African Agrifood”, delivered by Francisco Melendez, Innovation and Community Engagement Lead at SEAMWARE.
The presentation introduced Bridge-AI and its vision of using Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support more resilient and climate-smart agriculture across Africa.
BRIDGE-AI is a Horizon Europe project that aims to help farmers make better decisions by combining technologies such as artificial intelligence, environmental monitoring, satellite data and local knowledge. The project focuses on developing practical digital tools that can support agricultural activities in rural areas of Nigeria, Kenya and Tunisia.
During the session, Francisco Melendez explained how BRIDGE-AI explores new ways of connecting different sources of information, including field sensors, weather data and Earth Observation systems, to help generate useful recommendations for farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
The presentation also highlighted the four pilot activities that will be carried out throughout the project. These include maize production in Nigeria, mushroom farming in Kenya, pasture management in Tunisia and pomegranate cultivation in Tunisia. Through these pilot cases, the project will test how artificial intelligence can help improve agricultural planning, resource efficiency and resilience to climate-related challenges.
Participation in the FIWARE Global Summit provided an excellent opportunity to introduce BRIDGE-AI to a wider international audience and to exchange ideas with researchers, technology providers and innovation communities working on the future of data-driven and sustainable agriculture.
